INFEDE – Infant Feeding Decisions in Two Cultural Locations

The Horizon Europe funded research project INFEDE – Infant Feeding Decisions in Two Cultural Locations critically examines the factors influencing mothers’ decisions on infant feeding in two different cultural locations: Ireland and Finland. The project provides innovative research on women’s experiences of breastfeeding and formula-feeding. The project highlights that infant feeding decisions are not made independent of social and cultural context.

This two-year research project will be carried out by Dr Jenny Säilävaara at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth University (MU).

The project has two phases: In the first phase, people working and volunteering with mothers and families are asked about their experiences and how they reflect on infant feeding decisions made in Ireland. In the second phase, mothers from different backgrounds are interviewed and asked about their infant feeding journey.
